3. Joshua Ray Walker’s ‘Wish You Were Here’

Wish You Were Here is a deeply personal album, with songs written about Walker processing his grandfather’s death and his father’s Stage IV lung cancer diagnosis. The album feels that way, in fact, even when its narratives don’t come from Walker’s life; it’s peppered with stories about people, real or imagined, going through hard times. Lyrically sharp and musically expressive, Wish You Were Here is the result of 10 years of work — and it shows.
