Back in town after a series of mental health issues hampered her career, the folk and country singer is playing local gigs again.

Sitting in a Thai restaurant in Carrollton, singer-songwriter Kristy Krüger is joyful yet restrained. In July, she released a long-awaited new album, Fever of Unknown Origin, which has garnered some of the best reviews she’s received in her career. And she’s got a gig Saturday at Sons of Hermann Hall where she’ll be performing as a special guest with Salim Nourallah & the Treefort 5.

Since arriving back in her hometown of Dallas in 1998, Krüger had been a fixture of the local folk and country scenes. She toured constantly from 1999 to late 2005 and released four full-length albums. Yet Krüger still struggles with the effects of a nervous breakdown she had after her brother died in 2006 while serving with the U.S. Army in Iraq. The accompanying trials she’s faced as a musician attempting to make it don’t make things any easier.
