Berry, Bo Diddley & Ray: 40 Acre Mule reaches back to boogie-woogie to remake rock
August 21, 2019
A little bit of roots — the stuff of Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry — and a lot of rock make Dallas five-piece 40 Acre Mule a rough-and-tumble blues outfit.
The band has a 10-track record, Good Night and Good Luck, due out on Friday. With tracks like “You Better Run,” the band burns up the pavement with songs about romance-gone bad. The record spends a little time behind bars, too, in “16 Days,” which might be the consequence for a mortal chase to finish off an unfaithful consort.
Outfitted with Delta-blues bass and guitar licks, a growling saxophone here and there and a shivering organ, the band promises to unpack a set of nostalgic sounds.
40 Acre mule will share the bill with guitarist Seth James.
