Booker T. Washington students get a cool assignment — making new music for the Winspear chandelier

“Its original music came from acclaimed composer Philip Glass, who abridged a piece of his titled “The Light,” which, in terms of the chandelier, is going dark. “The Light” has been replaced by a new piece, which comes entirely from the talented kids at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, which, like the Winspear, is part of the sprawling campus that is the Dallas Arts District. Titled “The Lights Are Rising,” the new tune was composed by Booker T. senior Damoyee Janai Neroes and recorded by the school’s orchestra students, who were aided by a contribution from AT&T.”
